Manali: Deo Tibba (6001m) base camp and Hamta pass trek 5-7 days

Manali, so named from the Hindu God Manu, who like Noah of the Bible survived a Great flood and is believed to reside here.  This area of Kullu Valley is also known as the Valley of the Gods as every village has its own deity. It is popular for skiing and surrounded by lush wooden slopes and majestic snow covered peaks. Manali- also known as Chamonix of India is most favorite mountain destination of tourist from all across India.
Manali is suitable for any type of adventure activities such as Para gliding, Skiing, Snowboarding, Trekking, Rafting, Rock climbing, mountain biking, climbing expeditions.
A trek in around Manali varies from one day hikes to maximum of 5 days treks. Each trek presents a spectacular sight of nature. Beas Kund believes to be source of river Beas, can reach to this tiny lake from Solang.  A good hiker can make this trek in one day. Brigu Lake above Vashisht village presents a gorgeous sight of Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar range of lower Himalaya. Panoramic view of mountains far across the horizon can have a good sight of Hanuman Tibba, Maker Beh, and Shikhar Beh peak above 6000 mtrs. Towards Hamta valley a gorgeous view of Deo Tibba, Indrasan peak.The best trek to do in Manali region is Hamta pass trek, Malana village trek, Deo Tibba base camp trek, and Chandratal Lake trek.

This tour is especially designed for those who have never done any trekking and have a great desire to do trekking in Manali area. Although this trek is moderate to strenuous trek for those making first time, but slowly, steadly and gradually we will complete this trek for you and fulfill your first trekking experience in Manali area.

Outline trek Itinerary

Day 1: Manali –jagatsukh ( 1850m ) drive 6 kms.  – Sarotu Thach. trek 4 hrs.

Day 2: Sarotu Thach - Raudi Khodi. Trek 6 hrs. 
Day 3: Raudi Khodi - Base camp Pyang Neru . trek 5 hrs.

Day 4: Pyang neru – Chikka (3100m) . Trek 4 hrs.

Day 5:  Chikka 3100m – Balu ka Gera (3600m) 5/6 hrs. trek.

Day 6: Balu ka Gera- Hamta Pass (4268m) - Shira Gorh (4000m) 7 Hrs. trek.

Day 7: Shira Gorh - Chatru  (3100m) 5 hrs. trek. – Drive Manali.

 

7 days Cost Includes: 

·         All trekking and camping gears. 2-3 men dome spacious 3-4 season tent, cozy dining tent.

Deo Tibba and Hamta pass Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Manali –jagatsukh ( 1850m ) drive 6 kms. Jagatsukh – Sarotu Thach. trek 4 hrs.

Today after breakfast we drive to Jagatsukh village situated at the distance of 6 kms south of Manali on the left banks of Beas river or Manali – Naggar main route. Once it was the old capital of Kullu, is one of the biggest village in Kullu valley. Main attraction of this village is Shiva temple built in 8th century in shikara style and also famous for its ancient temples.

It is famous of its Chacholi Jatra festival.

Starting our trek from Jagatsukh at first we start gentle climb to Banara village. Located above Jagatsukh village. Surrounding great view of upper Kullu valley. We now climb through thickly forest, during summer this trail with abundance of flowers.

We arrive at lush green meadows of Sarotu Thach, thach- locally means grazing area. Overnight in camp.


Day 2: Sarotu Thach - Raudi Khodi. Trek 6 hrs. 

Today after breakfast we climb gentle on slopes of Hamta. We will arrive at above tree line from where the magnificient view of Pir Panjal range on west side and Brigu lake mountains. This entire slopes became famous in world due to one of the best ski slopes in the world. During winter Heli Skiing is major activities on this hills. Below us lies Sethan village and far main Hamta valley. We climb getle to the campsite of Raudi Khodi. The magnificient campsite with panoramic view.


Day 3: Raudi Khodi - Base camp Pyang Neru . trek 5 hrs.

Today after breakfast the trail crosses over slopes and alpin pasture. We climb for 1-2 hrs. with first view of Deo Tibba massif can be seen from here. We descend down to Jobri nallah. This part is fully covered with medicinal herbs and plants. We cross Jobri nallah and campsite is close to this. From camp we will have great view of Deo Tibba with massive glacier and moraine. During spring till end of autumn entire area is filled with sheperds. Who do moves to Lahaul –high pasture land after crossing Hamta pass and autumn returns back to their home.

 

Day 4: Pyang neru – Chikka (3100m) . Trek 4 hrs.

Today after breakfast at first trails goes on levelled path. We cross small stream and little climb to another levelled trail.  We are at the best part of our trek with great views all around.

Now we descend steep through rhododendron bushes and birch trees to Chikka. An exhausting descent what will be rewarded at arriving Chikka. Wonderful campsite close to Hamta nallah.

 

Day 05:  Chikka 3100m – Balu ka Gera (3600m) 5/6 hrs. trek.

Today after breakfast we continue to trek, first gentle climb on patches of meadows than along the nallah. Here we make RIVER CROSSING on HAMTA river. Again trail on patches of meadows with great view. We make another small stream crossing. After trails goes through rocks and we pass below small cascade before Jwara. Jwara Where shepers and Gujjar settled during summer time grazing their buffalos and cows. We are now totally above tree line and landscape changes. We make yet another stream crossing before Jwara and continue to climb to Balu ka Gera. The first view of Hamta pass can be seen from here. Simply means bears den. Balu ka Gera that is known for wild flowers, rocks and caves. During icy winter Bears roams in this area.

 

Day 06: Balu ka Gera- Hamta Pass (4268m) - Shira Gorh (4000m) 7 Hrs. trek.

Today leaving Balu Ka Gera we starts ascend to Hamta pass. Short after camp easy trail along the stream. We will arrive at small natural lake at the foot of Hamta pass or below Inderkila. A further 1: 30 m trail takes you to Hamta pass. From Hamta pass fantastic view of  Deo Tibba (6001m) and Indersan (6220m). Which is superb to see? After crossing the Hamta pass, we enter in Lahoul valley. We descend steep to campsite. Overnight stay in a camp.

 

Day 07: Shira Gorh - Chatru  (3100m) 5 hrs. trek. – Drive Manali.

Today an early departure from camp of Shira Gorh. We cross-stream (RIVER CROSSING ) near the camp and follow the right bank until it joins with the ChandraRiver. Again, cross the same stream by small wooden bridge. Now we follow the left bank of Chandra River. 30 minutes later a motor able bridge to be cross to reach at the campsite of Chhatru. Chatru is surrounded with rocky mountains. We drive  to Garmphoo junction between Spiti and Manali-Leh highway. We climb to Rohtang pass with panoramic view of CB range peaks and glaciers and Kullu side Hanumaan Tibba 5990m. We descend to Marhi, Kothi and Palchan and drive to Manali. Overnight in hotel.

Ladakh to Spiti trek and climb of Kanamo peak

“I have completed the Parang la trek from Karzok to Kibber and Kanamo peak from 08 Aug. 2011 to 20 Aug. 2011 organized by Potala Adventurers, with leading Guide Umesh and assistant Guide Ravinder. They are professional, experience, knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.  Umesh has assisted me several times on the river crossings and willing to wait for me, as I am always walking slowly. With no complaints, and also give me support with encouragement on passing the Parang la pass and on the Kanamo peak and give full support on during the road blocking on the Batal – Chatru. He also shared with me of his climbing experience and others about the regional history & culture to make the trip interesting.  Ravinder served as assistant guide but also acted as cook on the trek. He has done a good job on cooking includes breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner. I like much of his fried rice and noodles, potato chips and mixed veg. He also clean up campsite area and burnoff the garbage before leaving, in support of the eco-tourism.

I also like to thank you Tenzin Ningbo to secure me the bus ticket New Del / Manali / Del and the booking on the sunshine guest house which provide me the comfortable and nice stay. As well as to Ningbo for all his support me during my stay in Manali.

Last but not least, I would like to thank you Mr. Prem Singh of Potala Adventurers to well organize of this trek, the trek is challenging and overall the trip is rewarding, especially on the Spiti valley tour. I would like to come back very soon in the near future for another trek”.

Manali: Hamta Pass Trek
We completed our 4 days hamta pass trek on 14th july, 2011. It was a really great experience with all the modern facilities provided to us by tenzin ningbo. The taste of food along with the presentation of food at an altitude of over 3500mts was just great. We were also amazed by the knowledge about the area in which we were trekking shared to us by our guide Mr.Ravi. The trekking equipments used were also of good quality.

Our Hamta Pass trek was awesome. The entire Potala Adventurers team- Kenjil (your brother), Ravinder (Guide), Dinesh (Cook), and the porters were very friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed the trek and the company of your team right from booking till the end.

The trek was beautiful and adventurous. Ravinder and his team made the whole treking experience wonderful. We were really impressed by Ravinder's knowledge and passion for the mountains. He was very friendly and caring which made the whole treking experience even more beautiful. He also mastered his team (cook and porters) very well. All the staff was very nice, committed and cheerful. The food and camping arrangements throughout five days were excellent.

Thanks for organising the trek - from our perspective it was very enjoyable and met our objective of a light and comfortable trek. I would definitely like to recommend your name to anyone going for a trek starting from Manali and especially highlight the flexibility you offered in organising a cost effective trek for only two people, the good and hot food and courteous and helpful staff.

Manali: Hampta Pass Trek

Potala Adventurers has gone out of the way to make my Hamta pass trek truly memorable.  The Guide and porters were true professionals. They were able to assist me in providing information to questions I have and also helped me cross steep glaciers along the way. This is crucial for me, having little experience walking in ice. I also wish to compliment them on the elaborated food dished out everyday and appreciate the extra blankets when weather turns cold. I also deeply appreciate the company for helping me make pre and post trip accommodation and onward travel arrangements without being asked and providing invaluable advice.

I went on the Hamta pass trek in early June.  I had not read much about the trek before I left, so I didn’t know what I had coming. I was positively surprised with the good knowledge the Guide had about the areas we were passing through.  He seems to have real passion for mountains and trekking, which was really encouraging for me. The cook did his best to provide us with the nice dishes as far as it could be done.  All the staff on the trek acted professionally in every situation, even when my trek partner was forced to make decision to return with the porters. The cook and the Guide did their best to serve me the food I needed on the last two days of the trek, although we didn’t carry any cooking equipment with us. The tent and sleeping bags we were given were also just right for the wind and weather conditions. Altogether an amazing experience I won’t forget.
