TREKKING IN MANALI
Deo Tibba Base Camp Trek - 5 Days 4 Nights

The elegant Deo Tibba 6001 m, situated southeast of Manali town and above Jagatsukh village on the Pir Panjal range of Himalaya. A favorite trekking route to the base of this peak goes through Duhangan valley. It takes 3 days to reach base camp located near a glaciated lake called Mini Chandertal which is close to the glacier that falls of southeast face of Deo Tibba. The North-East Ridge is clearly visible from crossing the Hamta pass. Deo Tibba (6001m) and Indrasan (6200m) peak dominates the entire region. Today the Deo Tibba slopes are known worldwide for its heli-skiing.
Setting off from Manali we drive to the ancient village of Jagatsukh (6kms south of Manali), once it was an old capital of Kullu valley. Leaving Jagatsukh the road winds up to Allain Duhangan power project point from where the actual trekking starts. First climbing through alpine forest and along the Duhangan nallah. We climb up to Chikka which is famous for its temple and natural stone carving. Continue along the nallah we pass beautiful high pasture of Seri and climb to Tenta, which is beautifully located, surroundings with hanging glaciers, crystal clear streams, and waterfalls. Finally exploring In around Chota Chandertal situated at 4480m and the domains of Deo Tibba itself makes this trip one of the best trekking experiences in the Manali region.
OUTLINE ITINERARY
Day 1 Manali, drive to Jagatsukh - Khanol (2700m) - Chikka (3215m).
Day 2 Trek Chikka to Seri (3935m).
Day 3 Trek Seri to Tenta (4150m) / Continue trek to Chota Chandertal (4480m), 7-8 hrs
Day 4 Trek to Seri - Panduropa (3500m), 6-7 hrs.
Day 5 Trek to Chikka - Allain Duhangan, 5-6 hrs, Drive Jagatsukh to Manali 1:30 hrs.
DETAILED TRIP ITINERARY
DAY 1: MANALI 1950m, DRIVE TO JAGATSUKH, TREK TO CHIKKA (3215m)
Today leaving Manali behind we drive through the left bank of Beas River up to Jagatsukh. Which was once an old capital of Kullu valley or Kuluta. From Jagatsukh new road up to Allain Duhangan power project. Setting to trek from this point at first the trail ascends gradually through thick pine forests along the narrow Duhangan nallah. Continue to trail we reach the campsite or place known as Chikka, which is significant for Jagatsukh people. At Chikka we may find numbers of the rock formation. With its spectacular sights all around. Tonight we camp here.
DAY 2: TREK TO SERI (3935m)
Today after breakfast leaving Chikka behind we gradually climb along the Duhangan nallah through the birch forest. We pass shepherds encampment en route and hear the sound of Duhangan nallah gushing down the valley. Arriving at Seri the valley opens a little. Seri was once a glaciated lake, but now it has been totally converted to an alpine meadow carpeted with an astounding variety of herbs and alpine flowers.
DAY 3: TREK TO TENTA (4150m), Visit Chota Chandertal Lake 4480m 7-8 hrs
Leaving Seri at first on its flat carpeted meadow and soon after the crossing of stream awaits us. The stream can be cold depending on the time we are trekking. Early spring and late autumn bring water temperature to its 0-5 C. Soon after crossing the stream we climb to Tenta. The trail passes through numerous rock boulders and crossing of the stream again awaits just before the campsite. Wonderful campsite at Tainta presenting spectacular scenery i.e. hanging glaciers and high peaks with most awaited Deo Tibba to its left. Leaving Tenta we hike to visit Chota Chandertal or base camp of Deo Tibba. At first, the trail is through moraine, Deo Tibba and its hanging glacier remain in the sight throughout the day. continue to climb straight uphill to Chota Chandertal which situated above within rocky mountain. Arriving at the lake the spectacular scenery all around. We are at a maximum altitude of our trek. We retrace our foot back to camp.
DAY 4: TREK TO SERI - PANDUROPA, 6-7 Hrs
Retrace back to Seri and continue further to the campsite of Panduropa or Dhudhu pathar.
DAY 5: TREK TO CHIKKA - ROAD HEAD, 5-6 hrs. DRIVE TO MANALI 1:30 Hrs
Today after breakfast an early departure from camp, we descend all the way down to Chikka. Continue to the road head. We drive to Jagatsukh - Manali. Check into a hotel or take evening Volvo bus to Delhi.
