TRIP INTRODUCTION
The Chalung or Kula is a mountain in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir in the Ladakh region. Located in the Rupshu region in the Eastern Ladakh Chalung with 6546  m altitude the highest point in the north of the mountain range Thalda Kurmi. The peak is situated above Namshang La. It is known by both names. The first ascent of the Chalung succeeded on July 11, 1997, during a Japanese expedition led by Tsunso Suziki over the northwest ridge.
After 2 -3 days of well acclimatizing and doing a pre-summit trek from Rumbak to Stok via Stok La, we drive to the remote area across high Tanglang la pass 5328m. Arriving at the Tso Kar area inhabited during the summer by nomadic herders and by rare animals such as Blue sheep, Tibetan Antilope, wolf, and kiang (wild ass) roam year-round. Setting off from here a less than a week and crossing over 3 high passes we arrive at Korzok Phu, one of the largest nomadic settlements in the region, we reach the Yalung Nau la Pass (5400m) where we get our first views of the 20-kilometer long Tso Morari. Before crossing the Yalung Naula pass, we climb an easy Yalung Nong peak at 6050m, which doesn't require any crampons or rope, or ice axe.
